Tribal businesses

Tribes can sign up for Paid Leave:

If a Washington federally recognized tribe opts into the program, employees of a tribally-owned business on tribal land will participate in the program. Businesses owned by tribal members not on tribal land are included in the program and do not need to opt in.

NOTE: The same rules process applies for WA Cares.

Why sign up for Paid Leave?

If your tribe chooses to opt in, employees who work for the tribe will have access to paid time off to care for themselves or a family member, just like other Washington employees. When you opt in, you agree to pay the employees’ share of the premium. If you have 50 or more employees, you will pay the employer share of the premium. You also need to report your employees’ hours and wages every quarter.

Your employees can qualify for Paid Leave immediately after you opt in as long as they have enough reported hours to qualify.
